#1 #2 the background is a bit distractive
#3 perhaps rotate it a bit to make it straight?
#4 perfect! love the background, your hand? is a bit burned, but you can work that out in PP
#5 more fill light

This is a really great series, Ian. Love them all! Your light is looking very pleasing also.

Thanks all, much appreciated :)

Warl0rd. Unfortunately the BG on the 1st two was what I had to work with. I felt opening up aperture to decrease DoF would have resulted in less of the subject in focus and getting sharp focus at the best of time is critical. To be honest, most of the time, they don't land on the conifer ;).

3rd one, yeah a little lopsided t'is true.
5th one. I actually reduced the light here in PP. Wondering if it's a case of what I see at my end isn't the same at someone elses (yours) as the BG looks fine at home and on my work screen here. Darks on the subject are a little more dark than I would have liked.

yeah I understand :p
sometimes they don't stop for 1 second, I just go f/16 and hope to catch them in focus, its better to have some background then the bug OOF :)

I think the last one the eyes are nice but I think its too dark in the rest of the body
