This owl is rare here and has been in the same area near Lake Ontario for a couple of weeks now. Here's a shot I took this morning. I had some trouble with the RAW settings, but I think this shot is decent. Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Carl

Very nice shot....I have not seen the one in our area for a few weeks now and a Red Tailed Hawk seems to have taken over the area so I am very pleased to see one posted here. Each time I had an opportunity to shoot it was under overcast skies.....A wonderful little owl from the Boreal forest.....must be making quite a stir in your area. Thanks for sharing....very nice:)

Very nice shot, I'd be happy with that. A rare treat to see that beautiful owl.

Thanks everyone. It was a great experience and I'm thankful I took the hour and 45 minutes (one way) to see it!

I shot the photo with the Canon 100-400 and 1.4 TC on my XT using a monopod. I shot RAW with daylight white balance in Av mode, 5.6f and the shutter averaged 1000 at ISO 400.

Thanks again!

Carl

I know the feeling well.. I've got an hour drive (one way) to try and get a glimps of the one sighted by The Petrie Island guys..No luck on several occasions.

Great looking capture. Looks like you managed to get relatively close.

Thanks Ted. This bird has been in the same general area (I'd say within a couple of acres based on reports) for about two weeks. It was almost uneventful pulling off the road by the three or four other cars belonging to birders, getting out, looking up into the tree and seeing it sitting there!

I was about 100' away when I took that shot. Good luck to you next time you make an effort to see one!

Carl
