I was reading all the differences in accounts on zenfolios site and am a little confused. I'm trying to figure out if you can sell using the basic plus package, and if so exactly how it works, and what there fees would be. It looks like you can under the compare tab, but then when you click on the fees and partners tab it says n/a for all of them, I've added the link below to give you an idea.

http://www.zenfolio.com/zf/all-features-fees.aspx (external link)

I might use the unlimited package just to use my own domain name if I can come up with one.

Edit: Ok just spoke with the zenfolio rep via chat, basically he said one can only sell in the premium or business premium package. Either way I think even at the $120 a year and 4% fee, this will work for what I have in mind despite the fact it has nothing to do with photography.

You set your own prices for the products so, the 4% fee is really not a big deal especially when you consider the convienence of having a third party do all your fulfillment.

Yeah I'm not to worried about the 4% fee. But actually this site will not be used for photography strangely enough. But I think the layout and system will work for what I want it to work for, and it has the lowest fees and offers biggest bang for your buck, compared to selling on say eBay, or starting my own sit requiring lots of work. I only plan on doing this for about a year or two so I'm thinking I can make it work .

just out of curiosity, considering you are searching, is this one of the best options out there for the price? Im searching to start a website for some of my work and begin advertising.
would this be a reliable host, or is there a better option?

There are other options out there. SmugMug and PhotoShelter come to mind. I have been with Zenfolio for about a year and a half using their pro account ($120/yr). I've been very happy with it especially compared to Flickr and PhotoBucket which I also use for non-commercial hosting (i.e. forums). There is a large selection of products and my clients have been thrilled with everything they've ordered. Their webpages are fairly customizable but not super intuitive when you are designing. There are some good SEO tools that seem to work pretty well. I use a script in Lightroom that allows me to export directly to Zenfolio which makes uploading really quick and simple. The only thing I'm not thrilled with is that sometimes it is not easy for customers to see all the products available to them. For example, none of my customers seemed to know they could get iphone cases with their photos printed on them. Overall, I am very happy with Zenfolio. I also have zenfolio but I'm not a fan. The ordering system is great but I don't like the website customization. You can't have a static image on the front page, for example. Only a slideshow or no image at all.

You may want to look into a WordPress site. I'm currently making the transition to photocrati now, but I like it far more, although it's necessary to self fulfill orders.

The website in my signature is currently zenfolio.

If you want a static image just place one image in your slideshow folder.

That's what I have now. It drives me nuts because the image starts to load after the slideshow loads. The first thing people see on my site is a loading sign.

Actually, your website doesn't load at all on my computer.

That depends on the speed of a visitor's internet connection. I saw a minimal loading image sign for maybe 0.5 seconds. You should not leave Zenfolio for a blog or what have you. Zenfolio has a blog for each account. Like someone else posted, just have one image in a slideshow if you want one image. It's been a while since I changed my opening, but can't see how not a slide show is not an option.
