Does anybody know if this flash is compatible with external battery packs and if so which ones.
I believe the Mk1 is not but I am having trouble finding out about the Mk2.
Thanks for your help.

Neither YN568 variant is compatible with external battery packs. The lack of HV port has been a bone of contention right from their first introduction with many feeling it was a missed opportunity. My belief is that it was a deliberate decision to omit this port.

i think its part of their sales strategy.

at first i was really bummed to find out it didnt have it, but realized, at the price it cost, you can easily afford any other flashes of their options. I have 3 yongnuo flashes, the 568, and 2 580's (which take the battery pack)

You wont find HSS anywhere near this price. Nothing else on the market i believe. All my flashes costed $400...less than a 580ii still but with more capabilities.

pair it with a 622c trigger and you're set!

it really depends if you rely on ettl, which isn't that great, but either way...you need to be smarter than your machine at paid events. you can be 100% right through experience, but the flash cant

Thanks for your input and the information that the 580 takes a battery pack. I will primarily be using it in manual with a home made Better Beamer for wildlife work in lowish light - hence my wanting a faster recycle time.

To save any possible confusion, that's the CANON 580 (full model name: Canon Speedlite 580EX (superceded) and Canon Speedlite 580EXII (fairly recently discontinued - replacement is Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT)) which takes the battery pack. Despite the myriad numbers to which Yongnuo seem addicted, AFAIK 580 is not a model number they have used.....yet. Standby for even more confusion when they do.

Given the degree of imprecision rife in this Forum concerning model numbers (typos, faulty memories, etc), I thought it may help to save you the hassle of looking for something which doesn't exist.

You have succinctly chronicled the human condition.

Which leads to the next question - "Who is winning the Human Race?".
I definitely know it ain't ME.

Which proves my point about the frequent imprecision and/or inaccuracy of quoted model numbers. Clarified now though, thanks.
