I just recently purchased a 20D online. I purchased 2 lenses separately. The lenses came with warranty cards that said US/Canada Warranty, but the camera body warranty says International Warranty. Does this mean that the camera is Grey Market or is it ok? I called Canon customer service and didn't really get a satisfactory answer. I'd appreciate any info. Thanks!

Jenna

If it was standard import, the camera should have come with a USA warranty card (at least, in my experience all my US camera have US warranty cards). I have ordered lenses via Alternate import (Grey Market) and received International Warranty cards. So, on the face of it, I'd say you have a alternate import camera.

Where did you buy the camera? B&H sells gray market imports, but it honors the warranties itself. Other companies may or may not.

If it's not a USA/Canada warranty card, it's most likely a gray market import. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, if you've got a solid company like B&H behind you. In other cases, you should just pray that you don't need any warranty work.

My cards had Canon USA on them.

There was a link for online registration for me on my card. So I did the online registration and also did the rebate online as well (prequalify).

Non-import (non-greymarket) Canon 20D's for USA or Canada carry a USA/Canada warranty card. If your warranty card doesn't say that it is for USA and Canada then it will not be honoured in the USA or Canada.

Reputable dealers are very clear when you are buying an import of grey-market, and usually provide some sort of store warranty. To me, this would be the way to go if I lived close buy the store, but isn't worth the tiny saving if I have to pay for shipping to return the equipment for service. For example, at B&H you save a whole 10 bucks (0.87%) for buying the import 24-70 f/2.8L.

I bought mine from buydig.com less than two months ago. The warranty card has "USA/Canada only".
