I've shot and edited quite a bit of video from camcorders over the last 15 years but just recently started learning how to use a DSLR for the task. Been using the 24-105L on my 5D2 for most of the practice video I've been shooting. I've also been very happy with the footage I've got with the EF 50mm f/1.4. I've been looking at what my options are for a wide prime and I'm leaning toward the Canon 28mm f/1.8 as a very affordable option.

Anyone have experience with this lens? Any examples on a full frame rig?

I shoot video mostly on the 60D so YMMV, but the Canon 28 1.8 is quite alright as a cheap(er) alternative to either the 35L or 24L for video purposes. I've found that its a good middle ground lens, and the benefit of being an EF lens is that you can use it for dual effect of having a wide normal on crop and as a wide angle on your 5D2. On FF you might notice a slight decrease in edge sharpness, but its really not all that bad. The main thing I would say is that the color rendition from the 28 1.8 works nicely with the Neutral color profiles and will match up nicely with the 50 1.4 that you have already, which should ease your overall color grading workflow on videos that you would put together.

I may not be the best person to give advices, as i'm really a beginner in video, but i'm using that lens mostly for videos right now, it has quite good focus ring, wide enough focus scale, decent IQ and built quality, the olny thing that bothers me is how it renders colors.

I'm having some problems with matching colors from it with L-series lenses. Quite different white balance, contrast, color saturation and out of focus rendering. I'm shooting mainly with 50L, so there is quite a difference. However, it will match perfectly with footage from 50/1.4.

I use a Color Checker Passport so I don't think color would be a big issue. I'm going to give this lens a shot. I'm extremely pleased with the 50 f/1.4 and the 100 f/2 so this should fit right in.
