"Three possible products were mentioned to me: a D300s sucessor, a new 300mm f/4 lens and a new DX zoom lens (probably to be sold as a kit with the D300s successor)."

The D300s successor looks interesting, as does the 'D4-based camera'.

Given that the D300 series is aimed at pro shooters, and that the D7200 is more than enough camera for most amateurs, it's safe to say that the main attraction of a body in that class would be a combination of pro-level AF and high pixel density - higher than that of the current generation of full-frame sensors - for a reach advantage to capture distant action. After all, a pro shooter can just as easily buy a D800 (if resolution and IQ is the main concern) or D4 (if speed is the main concern) - higher pixel density at the same frame rate is the one thing that a crop sensor can deliver. I wonder if we'll see a 30MP-or-so Exmor sensor in this?

The D4 is only halfway through its product cycle, so I'd say it's more likely to be a high-resolution D3x replacement, rather than an action-focused body in the D4/D3s mould. I wonder if it will use a 36MP sensor, or if, in the past 16 months, they've managed to increase the resolution (and possibly DR) even more compared to the D800. Certainly, if they have, you'll see a similar, if not even improved sensor in the D800's eventual replacement.

I do hope they bring out a D400. The D7100 couldn't quite tempt me away from my venerable D300.

I guess they may well also finally bring out a VR equipped 300mm f/4. After I've just gone and bought the current one of course, grrr....
