I tried shooting Black Skimmers last year and failed miserably. This year I decided they were just too far off and that I needed to get in the water with them. So, I wait for low tide and go in waist deep, the birds are still too far off but I do my best capturing them. About an hour passes and much to my surprise the Skimmers start flying right past me to my left and right. Now they're too close, I can't frame the whole bird and they're inside my minimum focus distance. Needless to say most of those shots didn't turn out very good, this one turned out okay.

It never fails when you make an adjustment that the animal invalidates it. I really like it as you did well to pan with the bird and got some good sharpness in areas.

One of my favorites to watch fly, those water droplets on the underside white part of the wing is cool. Very sharp.

Hah, go figure Slice, all that time wading at low tide, probably muck too and then......unbelievable. You did real good though, the water droplets on the body and the lines on the beak, they have something to do with drawing the fish close, I think. it is amazing how close that upper beak is to the water and the little wake. All in all, pretty doggone good!
