Sigme 18-35 1.8 v Sigma 17-50 2.8

I'm currently weighing up between these 2 lenses for gig shots.

ANybody have any experience of the 1.8 for performance photography?

I didn't know this Lem's was shipping yet. I've used the 17-50mm and liked the images it produced, but I'm curious to see how the new kid on the block fares against it.

There's certainly folk on another forum I frequent with their hands on a copy. None of them shoot gigs though.
