Not the best of shots. Harsh light and a little off focus but I had to hold the leaf with one hand and shoot with the other... but it was the best of a mediocre bunch :)

The ant ran away to investigate my hand and then went back to its farming. I took a quick shot on the way back

err.. another cheeky sunset. Mainly because it was taken with my Canon 100L macro lens ;). It's no often we get the chance of a sunset where you can look directly at it without hurting your eyes. Tonight there was that opportunity. This shot is taken across the fence of our garden and across other peoples fences. Think it makes for an interesting silhouette as well as a gorgeous sun ;), plus I captured a bird in the shot too.

Great work Ian.

love the second ant shot, that to me is a wall hanger.

Smashing sunset too.

I think the sharpness it more then acceptable :)
The ideal would be more magnification on #2, but I know its next to impossible when they keep moving. so perhaps crop a little bit on the #2, so we can see more detail?

lightning is good.

Thanks all :)

yeah the Sunset shot I really like. Kinda like the framing of the trees etc. I know it's not Macro ;)

Paulo, I would have preferred more mag too on the solitary ant but I'd already cropped it a touch anyway. Don't like to crop too much as it degrades the image (that is unless I'm doing it wrong).

Incidentally, when people are cropping to enlarge a subject, how do you guys go about it, assuming you're using Photoshop? What's your flow process in CS? Must admit, I'm rather intrigued.

Cool shots. What are those insects, smaller then the ant, called?

Ian, I just crop it on lightroom and then choose the amount of sharpening/noise reduction.

If your image is very sharp and you have a good MP count you can get away with bigger crops.
