How can you afford it?

Have you considered the 1D4? It is a beast as well, and would be a great upgrade to your 1Ds. I would put the 1D4 against the old 1Ds any day. It is easily 75-85% the camera the 1DX is, based on personal accounts and having owned the 1D4, at 50% the cost. It gives you a great upgrade in a much shorter period of time, and later you could then change over to the 1DX.

I would dare say that you may never pick up the 60D again, or very seldom if you had the 1D4. It does everything better, has longer battery life, etc, and the only downside is bulk vs portability. It sits right between the FF and crop too, in regards to DOF control and reach.

This is the 1Dx and 1D IV; they are both very "Sexy" If your work does not require the 1Dx, then get the 1D IV as TeamSpeed have suggested. It is a beast in itself.

How can some people afford having $1,000,000+ homes. Income. More you make = more you can either 1. spend or 2. save. It's when you make a whole lot when you can do both good.

Honestly I have friends that think I'm rich for having 4k in gear but the reality is I pay bills first, make sure family is taken care of then camera stuff when I can. I've been lucky to be able to afford what I have.

I went into this "Hobby" with having the ability to take great photos of my children. Screw flowers buildings street photography planes landscape or whatever. What matters most in 50 years is the people. That in my opinion makes the most impact.

Back to the topic, I honestly wouldn't want a 1DX, even if I could afford one. I suppose I have the capacity to buy one from a strictly monetary standpoint (savings..), but that is not how I want to spend my money. (And the other half would NEVER allow it) It's an amazing camera - but I am not a pro. My 60D (and soon the 70D) are what I need to do what I want to do with my camera. The XXD, a flash, and a couple of good lenses make for a really good kit for my needs.

No, I did actually invent the Invisicord back in 2004, and that has funded a big down payment on a house, a new car, and my equipment, but who's counting? I have a new invention in the works, but won't divulge until I get a provisional patent. Something that should put all my copycat competition to rest.

If the 5D3 was an APS-H body, it would be nearly perfect for everything I shoot. My favorite camera to date is still the 1D4, and when I sold mine, I thought that with all the new announcements, it would have dropped in value by now. But alas, it hasn't moved at all, it is still around $3000 to $3300, so I decided to pick up the 5D3.

I don't need the 12fps on the 1DX, and even though at the raw level, it is probably 1 stop better than the 1D4, the 5D3 performs very close to the 1D4 and gets the job done for now. I really enjoy the APS-H format though, and I expect I will end up with a 1D4 again, and the 7D will go to a new home.

I don't care about the 1DX all I wanna know is how my neighbor can afford a BMW M3 with her nursing job???

Look at everything you spend your money on, add up what you spend in 1 year. Then redirect the money you waste to something that brings you real pleasure. Cut out small continuous expenses and instead make one time purchases. For example, instead of spending $10 a day for 1 year on coffee, drink water (its healthier anyway) and sleep what your body needs, then take the $3650 you saved to buy something great!

It's all about priorities. I have a regular job and pay and haven't been able to afford a 5D2/6D for a while ... but I got a motorcycle and traveled a lot.

How much is a 1DX anyways, 6-7k? Eat ramen noodles for a bit and you can have one. It's not Hasselblad money.

As an amateur i didn't know any better so i got one. if only my 7D could shoot cleaner inside with high ISO and fast shutter speeds and i couldn't wait for the 7D2 any longer nor for the $1K drop of the 1Dx.

Man, I drive a Sentra and I still don't have a FF camera, much less a 1D-something....

Really, though, I think you can drive yourself nuts always comparing with the internet "Joneses". There are a relative few with tons of disposable income. Most people will never be there. But especially in the economic conditions of the past decade, I think you should count yourself lucky/blessed if you are in the position to own even a modest DSLR kit. This isn't a dirt cheap hobby. I think most of us are middle or upper-middle class, which is not a bad place to be.

This might as well be a question like 'How can you afford that M3?'

With some new post processing techniques and a good NR tool, you could have saved alot of money!
