I'm still watching the bluebirds on their feeding runs in the yard. I can hear the chicks now when the parents land to feed them, and the parents don't need to stick their heads very far into the box anymore...shouldn't be long!
I'm thinking sometime next week at the latest, for the fledglings to be ready to leave, so I'll be keeping a close eye for the next while.

These are some really cool shots! I can't imagine how hard it was to get these, bluebirds are so small and fast. Nice work!

It's not as tricky as it seems...I set up the camera on a tripod where I want it, set the focus on the entrance hole then reposition so I'm aiming at the air in front of the nest box (or wherever you are sure the birds will fly past). Switch the focus to manual... and sit back in a lawn chair with the cable release in hand. When the birds fly in I trip the shutter (high-speed burst). Wash-rinse-repeat as they say. It may seem a bit scattershot, but I usually get at least a couple just right per session.

Thanks for explaining your technique, I'm going to have to try this now.

Excellent clarity and nice smooth backgrounds on these, Mike. Your expertise and your skills are showing great results!

Fantastic shot Mike, very cool too. The detail is fantastic, the curves in the second shot are beautiful! They are all top notch.
Well done indeed!
