My wife and I both shoot 5D m2's at weddings. When we download images, we want them combined in the same folder. Occasionally, the two cameras assign the same file names. We use iMac and Macbook Pro, LR, and PS, if that matters.

When this occurs, is there an easy way to do filename change on a large number of raw images?

Is there an easy way to prevent this from happening to begin with?

Thanks in advance,

The 5D MK3 allows you to create custom filemanes whereas the MK2 dows not so there is no 100% guaranteed way of stopping it from happening.

There are bulk renaming apps out there and for MAC GOOGLE found these 3 :

What DAM software are you using?

Do you use Lightroom? You can either do it on import or in the Library.

Or there are other options.

Lightroom makes it easy/simple using the Import dialog -- you can rename using one of numerous naming options. When I download/import from two different cameras I just assign a common shoot "name" and add the camera-specific info (or the shooter's name) and then LR adds a sequence number to each set, so each file has a unique name.

1. Not sure about the 5D2 but the 5D3 allows you to add a user defined prefix to file names. Having a unique prefix for each camera would solve the issue.
2. Tony's suggestion above. I have an import prefix that changes the name of files on import.

Thank you so much for the responses. I'll give it a whirl in the morning with LR. If that doesn't work, I'll try one of the apps. Many thanks, again.
