Ideal travel camera?

I'm going to Croatia in October and staying on the island of Mljet, which is a national park.

So all-in-all, plenty of photo oppurtunities.

I have a Canon 7D i use for my wedding work, but not entirely sure if i want to take it abroad with me. Two reasons: 1) Weight - 7D is not a light body. 2) Damage - I would not want to damage my work camera on holiday.

Now i've narrowed my search down to these cameras as they are all within a similar price range here in the UK. If you can recommend any other too look at then by all means do!

They are:

Canon EOS-M w/ 18-55

Canon EOS 100D (SL1) w/ 18-55

Samsung NX1000 w/ 20-50

Fujifilm X20

When I travel I use a 5D III and 24-70 II also bring my 70-200 II tripod and lee filters. But I also bring a fujifilm X Pro1 + 35 f/1.4. I'm now traveling through Korea and I use the X Pro 1 very often and leave the 5D III in the hotel safe.

Did not like the EOS M or Sony Nex. Had them both but making photos with them was not fun for me. The fujifilm makes taking photos fun (for me)

I'm leaning towards the X20 as i've never shot with anything like it and i felt one and it feels nice in the hands. Slightly different to my 7D!

must be the OVF of the X-Pro1 that makes it fun shooting, plus smaller and lighter than a DSLR

don't know much about the X20 but what about the RX100, both would make excellent P&S travel cameras

but if you are planning on shooting some landscape then IMO there's no substitute for a DSLR

If you can deal with a fixed focal length lens then the new Ricoh GR. Bigger sensor than both the X20 and RX100 and I think around the same price point too (maybe just a bit more expensive)

The reason i like the X20 is because of the nice addition of the viewfinder and all the extra dials which i'm kinda use to with my 7D. I did look at the RX100 but wasn't over impressed, build quality was excellent but general use didn't seem right.

I used a Canon G12 for a few years.
Very good capable, compact camera (although not quite pocket sized). Ideal for travelling.

In the end I returned back to using just a DSLR.

I had the same when using a Sony Nex and the Canon M. Always graphed the dslr and ended shooting with the dslr.

After tested several smaller cameras I decided to give the X pro1 a try. Did not like the AF in the beginning but after the last update it works for me. Also impressed about the high ISO performance. Thinking of ditching the 5D3 and lenses. I think I only will miss the tele. For now the 5D3 can stay.

Recently went on a China tour for 2 weeks. I carried my 5D3 with 24-70 II and 70-200. Could never get a good shot because the tour was always on the move and the weather (rain, fog and smog) never was ideal. Was not worth hauling all that gear. Came back and got the Canon SL1, at least I can use my lenses.

I just came back from island hopping in the Caribbean, and having a DSLR was a pain in the butt. I used my Iphone a lot, and brought my Nikon D7000 on a lot of excursions, but I really didn't enjoy hauling that thing around, even with the slim holster bag I have.

Of course, the Iphone wasn't quite up to snuff in many situations, but it was close. I have a lot of really good photos from that thing, especially with a couple of apps that are really good (ProHDR is one of them, plus the panorama feature on phone's native camera).

I just bought the Canon EOS-M and will try it out for a few days (haven't unwrapped it yet), but I'm seriously considering leaving the DSLR at home from now on. It's just not fun for me to have a big bag with lenses and such.

The images from the Fuji are excellent. The high ISO is impressive.

I have a Panasonic GX1 but I wish I had the Fuji instead.

I love my EOS M. It's literally my everyday camera and after hauling my 7D, 30mm, 17-55mm, and 70-200mm f/4 (not even the 2.8!!) through disneyland last year, I knew I wanted a compact large sensor camera.

The full 1.6x crop sensor is fantastic (and slightly better than the 7Ds, actually). Yeah, there's no (E)VF or built-in flash, nor will the AF track leaping gazelle or running children, but for snapshots, or landscapes (or another...) it'll do you right.

Plus, buy the EF to EF-M adapter and bring your other lenses along and leave them in the hotel/rental car trunk/wherever and if you run across something crazy you must use your super telephoto on, it'll work a treat.

I'd go with the EOS-M/22mm combo, I use a full frame film compact with a fixed 35mm and I love it!

Olympus OM-D + Panny 20mm 1.7

I actually went with none of those in the end and bought a Panasonic G3 with kit lens. The saving gave me enough to buy an extra lens too it may be a older camera but it got a 5 star review on photography blog website.
