Hi guys,
I know this will sound super stupid for some of you, but how do I edit raw, I always shoot jpeg and always hear about the benefits of raw.

I decide to try, I set the camera to shoot raw+jpeg, now I am able to read jpeg files, next to them, there is the picture in raw (cr2 file) but I am unable to import it into LR or open it in the first place.

Any help will be appriciated

What version of LR do you have? Does it support your camera? Have you tried the Canon program supplied with your camera, Digital Photo Professional (DPP)?

.CR2 ('raw' file) can't really be viewed through Windows' Photo & Fax Viewer. I use Zoombrowser to look at the .CR2 file outside of Lightroom. What version of Lightroom do you have, but also make sure it is as updated as possible.

Should be able to simply do the following:

1) go to File > Import
2) find the directory on the hard-drive where the .JPEG and .CR2 files are locted
3) select-ALL, or select manually what files you want to import.
4) press, Import.

Now you should be able to edit the .CR2 file as you please and then export it when complete in a .JPEG file format (or whatever you may choose).

I have the latest LR5, downloaded few days ago, when I go import the pictures, in total there should be 24 pictures being imported to LR, 12 jpegs 12 raws, and it only imports the 12 jpegs, and I cant even see the remaining 12 raws, though they are the same photos.

There is a setting in the import process where you can, or not, have the jpg and raw files imported together, and you see only the one image. If you want to see two separate images, unselect that option.

The setting is in Preferences, General tab; "Treat jpg files next to Raw files as separate photos."

That's gotta be the missing link, because LR5 should completely support your camera (being the latest and greatest). Let us know the outcome! :D

I believe what you are seeing in LR are the raw photos. Take a look at: http://help.adobe.com …5f-8E7F-0FD7AAEB0575.html (external link)

Treat JPEG Files Next To Raw Files As Separate Photos
For photographers who capture raw + JPEG photos on their cameras. Selecting this option imports the JPEG as a standalone photo. If selected, both the raw and the JPEG files are visible and can be edited in Lightroom. If deselected, Lightroom treats the duplicate JPEG as a sidecar file, and the raw file appears with the raw file extension and +jpg.

Thank you tzalman. You are correct.

But the point remains, there is a setting for this.

Confirmed. Change the setting in LR. Then you will see a .jpg and a .cr2 file in the imported-to folder.
