******* Its all about Style *******

Just been having a moment after looking at Warrens Anawhata photos. 2 people same sort of gear 2 different looks. "Why dont my photos look like that" I wondered  . Then I remebered something I have just read about "who we are" when we photograph. Our Style.

It dawned on me the 2 people see the world differently. 1 could see it in an artistic manner while the other in a factual context. Which got me thinking about who I am as a photographer and why my photos look the way they do....

Im developing my own style. I see the world in a logical, matter of fact way. I photograph what I see and how I see it. I dont think of how to change it with the camera and effects. Yet when I PP I make it match what I felt not what I saw.

Karakare for me was about the stomy skys and raging sea. So I captured and enhanced the scene to reflect that.

So whats the whole point of this.... Well be yourself, dont try to be someone else. Each photo taken is how you see the world. Enjoy others work but remember it is there view not yours.

I completely agree with you... I have seen a few guys in the 4wd scene who try to take shots that look like those in magazines but I've always said develop your own style and your own technique, and create an images different to anyone elses

thats what makes your photo's better. because you are telling the story not copying something from a magazine, book or poster.

I'll admit to keeping a watch for your posted shots, Tony. There must be a reason...

Yes there are certian photographers I follow as well. Must be like music certian people have simalar tastes.

I guess for me not having an art background I have a freedom to develop with no "rules" Yet part of me need to know the "rules" as a guide.

I was very aware of leading the eye in my photos today. I guess we ill all look back this time next yr and see how we have developed

Hey its not as bad as my euraka one the otherday when I turned to my wife and said "Honey do you know why on overcast days everything is so dull...there are no shadows"

I discovered contrast

I must have a short going on upstairs because somethings take a real loooooong time to click into place.

You should never aspire to be like someone else. Maybe aspire to be as great, but never the same.
You are correct, Tony. Developing your own personal style is the key. As with subjects, it's always great to see varying interpretations of the same area, but for me, I'm more keen on seeing varying locations, varying subjects.

The same thing doesn't interest me that much. But that's my own opinion, and in no way, shape, or form a dig at anyones work. I like the right-brained view of a place, object, person. The close ups of a puddle, rather than the entire rain drenched street. A rock taking up part of the view, rather than a clean shot of the landscape.

I'm sure others are the total opposite, and quite rightly so, they are allowed to express what is pleasing to their eye.

BTW - forgot to mention before, Tony, that leaf shot was amazing.

What did I do differently with my shots?

Just longer shutter speeds, more water blur, and a tripod. :p

Anyway, compare your Karekare thread to my Anawhata, you have 3 times more replies, clearly yours are way better. :p So stop comparing. :)

I don't know about that, there are plenty of people trying to be Elvis and they get noticed.
