Anyone have any opinions of the 50 1.8 Mk2 lens for low light situations, going to a christening the Sunday in a quite old dark church.

The dollar briefly traded at US74.76c, the highest level it has touched since it became a free floating currency in March 1985. It was floated at US44.44c.

The dollar was last at this level against the US dollar in 1982 when New Zealand ran a so-called crawling peg currency.

The previous post-float high of US74.65c was in March 2005.

At 12.10 it had eased slightly and was trading at US74.64c.

As I mentioned to David in an earlier post -- it will get to .75 For those of you planning to buy something at B&H or overseas now is the time to buy... or wait till its gets to .75 which effectively will give you around .735 with all the bank charges.

Here's a few shots I took in March at Mission Bay (Auckland Waterfront).

Neither of them are great from a photographic outlook, but I thought they were fun. One day I'll go back and make a good job of it....they are what they are.

Cliff

Good fun watching those critters dive for coins or other stuff. Are they that hungry?

Hey all you Kiwis
Was kindly directed over this way by Scottnz. I'm kind of new to photography. Just had a 400D bought for me, so I'm frantically trying to learn how to use it!

So nice to meet you all.

Di

Welcome aboard Di! If you're in Auckland and want to met the crew, there's a BBQ at Moppie's place on Saturday.

EDIT: Oops, you're in Wellington... but if and when you do find yourself up here, there are some 12+ active GKPErs up here.

John;)

The 50mm 1.8 was good fun for me but I felt that it wasn't what I wanted long term hence I sold it to Moppie. IT is capable of giveing you very good pics as long as you understand its limitations. It is also the best bang for buck lens I've come across.

Thanks John, I was just wondering wether (weather??) it is much of a difference compared to my 2.8 of if I should spend a bit (reasonable bit) more & get the 1.4. I dont envisage doing a lot at these low light levels without a flash, just not supposed to be using a flash in this church. For $160 odd dollars, if it can give me a reasonable shutter speed, it is probably worth spending $160 even if it doesn't get a lot of use.

Cheers

Mark

ditto also, BBQ (read party??) at Moppies, when, where, what to bring?

I will need a good lens (so I thought)
I asked in the lens forum about what i should use. I got two kit lens EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III and the EFS 18-55mm with the camera. They said they would be fine. Guess seeing as how I really am still learning all this they will do for me.

LOL I like the nice white ones! But I dont really think I will go there. By the time I've worked out how to use it properly I'll be an older lady than I already am!
