Warren, I was reading one of your earlier posts, you said that you dont use UV filters on your lenses??. Is this for any particular reason, faster AF, sharper images??

I have always been concerned with damage to the front element, I have always used them & have even noticed small chips on them (from where, unknown)

I dont either I find that its just another bit of glass and therefore more weird light hitting it.

Mark, I have used UV filters on my lens that I don't wont to get damaged. I have one on my 17-40, which I dropped one day. lucky it hit the filter. it was bent out of shape and so I got a new one and bingo fit fine.

Tony you wouldn't have had a grip for the 30D did you... I'm looking for a second hand one for my 20D. if anyone else has one that they are trying to sell I'd be interested.

I dont want any of mine to get damaged:lol: Any idea of how much light you loose 1/3 stop or so. I've been doing so experimenting and this is about what I loose with it on but dont really see any image degredation with it on. I suppose I could just be careful of the situations that I dont use one!! Bit like some other type of protection.

Very, quite different to the 350 but once I learnt the layout, its much easier to use.

I did notice that you had the colour space set as aRGB, do you normally use this??

That a bit strange, in my tests (low inside light), I'm getting a fairly consistant 1/3 stop difference.

They are Hoya filters which I think are reasonable quality, maybe the difference is more noticable in low light, the strength of light is exponental?? I think

don't ya know, got to stay young at heart. anyway they were right. that lens is a good place to learn.

apart from the buy of the 400D, have ya done much photography?

um seriously no. I had an FZ30 before the Canon was bought for me. My daughter has a 300 which I tried out at our last paintball tourney and found it way faster than the FZ30 (not surprising tho I guess)

I've taken a good few photos over the last few years which are on my photo site, but I've mostly used the "modes" sports, auto etc. I really would like to learn to use shutter and aperture properly, SO all you lovely Kiwis start schooling.......:D

I will read and learn as much as I can from the forum and any info you guys (are there any females on here  ) can send my way. Hopefully I'll know how to use my camera before I end up in an "old peoples" home:rolleyes:
