Tell us more about Hotel Shrimpa. Can we all come and stay one weekend for a maxi?

yes.. my new house.. moved over the weekend - had all the floors stripped and pollied. - new carpets and rugs for a couple of areas. - new tiles going down in the bathroom / toilets and conservatory.

new workshop / studio being built in the garage

a slap of paint and a couple of walls moved..

as for a weekend stay - everyone is welcome. Moppie had a stay in the last hotel shrimpa.. (and he said he liked it - but the new one is much better) :D

but... thats all i wanna do too

the institution is Te Wananga O Aotearoa (external link) (link to course info)
there are 2 modes for the course: contact (which serra and aaron are doing) and mixed-mode, which i am doing. the mixed mode course is offered from the north shore campus, next to the canon building LOL (but of course since its correspondence, you don't have to live on the shore)
the contact course can be offered at manukau or north shore.

for the contact course, \attendance 1 night a week is compulsory.
for the mixed-mode course, your have the option to attend a 'class' tutorial on the upcoming work one night per week, or, you can stay home and do it all there. they post each module to you as you complete the last. and you are entitled to direct tutor contact including visits if you get stuck.

the course is completely free and they give you paper, pens, calculator, books, dvd...etc - oh and they didnt enforce the entry criteria - id never done any business training before this

We were never given the option of doing it completely by correspondence.. :( You only need 80% attendance to actually still pass though so if you miss the odd one its ok. Its ok though as the people contact is good. They also offer Saturday workshops where you can build business networks and they invite guest speakers in etc. We have one this coming Saturday from 10am till 2pm and there is 2 Saturdays per module (6 modules).

They run the courses all over Auckland... Pukekohe, Mangere, Pakuranga, Mt Albert, Te Atatu and Northcote are a few they're doing at the moment. They have multiple running at the same time.

Its certainly proved very useful already and we've only been doing it 6 weeks. Have just finished the first module. There are many different people in the class and already some that will prove useful to us in the future - its great for networking.. They ask that you already be in business or that you have a business idea - otherwise it makes it quite hard... by the end of it you come out with a Business Plan for your business or idea.

On a photography note - who is going to the Mohammed Ali photography exhibition up the Sky Tower this weekend? I'm thinking of going and having a looksy....

A bunch of Canon bits and pieces.

Nearly 2am, and I've just finished packing for Le Mans. I never knew one man could require so much stuff. Never again will I moan about Mrs Dave packing enough clothes for a month when we're away overnight. And you know what? It's all camera gear. Good. F'in. God. :(

Seriously, on my own I could fill the space in a decent saloon car's boot. I hope this sodding timelapse thing's gonna be worth it. ;)

On another note, in four-ish hours I will be getting up to attend my final interview for Apple. Wish me luck, I think I'll need it!

Cheers, Dave.

Hi everyone, I'm back from my Italian holiday.
I just had about an hours scan of the nearly 100 pages of posts since I left, Gave up on the last few days.
Holiday was great, weather was pretty crap though. Loads of cold rain, which is great when you are camping with kids.
Never the less, I got a bit of good windsurfing, some good mountain biking, and climbed a mountain or two. I even took a few pictures! Camera worked after the repairs. Even after I cleaned it, my sensor is still pretty grubby. I think my 17-85 is working better than it used to.
I'll post some pictures later.

Welcome back! Pics?

thats because your intended start time did not coincide with the next mixed-mode intake: they can only start a mixed-mode class at the beginning of a period (whenever that is)
my tutor told me a bit about it: govt gives a certain amount of funding for each type of course; when one bloc is used up, they cant transfer the funding from the other, so u have to wait for the next payout

So from a calendar, you'll get 1 weeks salary after covering expenses and taxes. Seriously, that's not worth it. You have to be the publisher itself to make any money in calendars. Sad, but true

I know that.

If you say get 10 photos. That's $2500.
Minus petrol for travelling different corners of the North Island, $1000. Minus accommodation. Minus tax. After all this, you're left with some pocket money.

But yeah, it's NZ. What can we expect. Most photographers are underpaid.
Need regular gigs, and lucky breaks every couple of weeks to survive.
