I had a friend in Ausy get her Barina hit from behind & shunted over the side of a hill and the description reading "it just fell to bits around us" doesn't instill any sense of confidence.

yeah the barina felt smaller around me than the mini cooper, it was a 4-speed gearbox and it felt more lightweight/cheapo than the hyundai accent which is really saying something

Bull****.
That would mean you had to drive 3 cars a day working 300 days a year.
Its not possible to get a good apprectation of a car based on a short drive around a car park. Of course the idea that you managed to find and drive 2000 unique models of car...............

with all due respect: i DID drive over 2000 different vehicles, and some i drove many times each as well

the reason i know: I WROTE IT DOWN in a notebook i kept in my pocket as an exercise in curiosity, as soon as i started working there. when i got to 2000 i tired of it and stopped keeping the record. also i was getting sick of the job, and ended up transferring to head office with not as much hands-on work. some of the cars were the same make and model but different years, or differed in certain specs like sports/family/luxury or wagon/sedan etc.

and i never drove them around a car park: i drove them between clients' locations and the workplace, anything from 5km-50km each way - some days i drove more than 10 cars, and i often worked 6 days a week.

and i didnt 'find' them, the car owners came to US for the service which we were providing (which i also would administer to some of the vehicles in question throughout my working day)

have i successfully defended myself? *folds arms*

I thought Vauxhall was the euro name for holden?

if it is, why do opel and holden share model names then? and if you look at the actual cars, they are basically identical

edit:
hmm seems wikipedia lumps all 3 of them together as being virtually identical cars, as well as the saturn versions. they are all GM vehicles marketed under different brands worldwide

just hope nothing breaks or goes wrong with it or you will be taking out a second morgage to get it fixed

yea, sure I will go out and buy a car worth over 100k and I wont have the money to fix it. if one can afford a car like that then one can afford the insurance, the running cost and any repair costs that may or may not pop up.

Sure jap cars last a long time and be made for the mass market, but they feel cheap made, and most of the time lack style. toyota is a good example of that. However mazda has gone out of the way to make cars with some style.

regardless I will still buy a euro over a jap any day of the week, if $$$ allows.

Why are you going to England??

momentz wrote in post #3349676 (external link)
1080p is true hd.
You know that 720p isn't true hd format? But it's marketed as such to sell lower spec tvs, and especially the new 'freeview' digital signal, which actually only standard digital, but because it is such a step up in quality from analogue, nobody will argue it's not hd.

LCD and Plasma tvs only use progressive scan. Interlace is for CRT and projection tvs.

TH42PV60 is the exact model number, although I'm pretty sure you could get a deal from weird brands at parallel imported or on trademe. I haven't even looked.

ok you guys are right, I got confused :o as I normally do with these things, I was thinking of the 1366 x 768 res. which isn't a HD format. again marking at it's worse.

following that link lil_miss sent and other links found within wikipedia (external link)say that both 720 and 1080 are HD formats

wiki wrote:
Current HDTV standards are defined by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-R BT.709) as 1080 active interlace or progressive scan lines, or 720 progressive scan lines, using a 16:9 aspect ratio.

toyota have released a new model lately, the aurion. be interested to see if that gives them the foot in the door of the executive car market which i think is their focus for it.

Yeah, the ITU classifies it as such for marketing purposes, so that consumers know what's compatible with what, basically saying anything digital falls under the 'HD' logo/trademark, because thing were getting confusing (as if they're not still). Technically, though, 720p is standard digital, 1080p is high definition digital.

samsung, dell and apple for the same size screen use the same lcd panel. At the time of me buying mine it was the only one with the extra connections and thing like pip (picture in picture) samsung didn't have anything like that and also the price was right. dell was having a special at the time. :)

that's why I don't believe in marketing and that's also why the next tv I am going to buy is going to 1080p res :) now if only blueray and HD-DVD war ends so we can have one format and have players that are $500 odd then I would be happy.
