It's certainly worth testing. Try some different sized 'products, too - even basic stuff like tinned food and the like - the challenge will be in managing the reflections, I reckon.

It's exciting stuff. You have produced something out of nothing (the 'tent') and you are already getting great results with it. Not a bad afternoons 'work'.

John often I have an idea but takes months to action, either Im not in the mood or im out doing other photography

Was talking to my wifes uncle, who works for canon, this afternoon. I had a bit if a winge about the service dept. He said they had a major problem with staff leaving, but things should be on the mend now. They have been sending stuff to canon australia to fix, and they have hired a guy from canon dubai to move to NZ to do the SLRs. I also mentioned the price drops on the 30D. He said the wholesale price hasn't changed much. Photo & Video's price was a mistake, and they were selling at a loss. Lots of the competition has been asking for a cheaper price from Canon, but won't be getting one, so he expects the prices to all go back up when every one realises that they are competing with a pricing mistake and are making a loss on it. So if you want a 30D, maybe you should buy it tomorrow.....(or maybe the 40D is coming out next week and he couldn't say, or more likely doesn't know yet.)

Yes, it was a 2007 Mondeo. Ford hand built a prototype, rushed to get it finished on time to be in the movie.

YES! Try the glass under the object - I have seen some pix done like that and they look like they are floating.

Yeah, I know what you mean by taking time to do stuff - I have been watching this thread (and sometimes commenting) for a very long time. You are getting out there and doing it, mate. More than a lot of us (including me) have done.

Your landscapes have improved tremendously.
Your Glamour was getting to the excellent point - but I understand the issues you had there.

Sports - well, the 1DII cries out for sports photography. A mate and I went to a footy match in Sydney (1st grade) and got positions right on the fence. His shots were great - mine were average. He goes to the footy a lot - I had only been the once. It's something you really have to spend time perfecting.

Product - you are off to a roaring start. You should be in a position, soon, to be able to put it up as stock.

It was more than a rush job - the car used was a one off production run.. its interior was out of the focus.. as they had no interior designed yet..

Ford wanted the car on there... all stops pulled to get it there..

How are you so wise in the ways of boring old mundano?

it was on the making of the CR 007 movie ( a sky movies interlude) .. - and mondeo's are not boring.. in 20 years time i will be restoring a mondeo mk1 - describing to my kids how they handled - going around corners was more luck than judgement - and how the mighty 2 ltr zetec engine was made to suffer by bolting on a sh1te tranny... etc...

I thought Vauxhall was the euro name for holden?

Opel is the German branch. I think Vauxhall are the English branch. I never see any Vauxhalls here as they are right hand drive.

I might pop in to harey norman and see what they have got.

Kids just managed to blow up another computer
Decided to turn the power off at the wall while it was been rebuilt.
Looks like RAMBUS now has fault. It was my server.

Oh well they can now wait 3 yrs untill I get a new one.

Ouch... Don't you just love the little treasures.

So being a car groomer leaves you qualified to comment?
I spent 3 years working for Aucklands only Lotus Service agent, and have been involved in motorsport on and off, at varies levels for nearly a decade.
I also moderate the internets largest automotive forum.

Of course, I lack that unique knowledge so important to all new car buyers: How to clean the mag wheels on a Toyota Camry.

Its one thing to offer your opinion, its something else to try and back it up with more misleading, misrepresented opinion in an attempt to sound qualified. :)

Jeez Moppie, being a bit harsh aren't we!
I interpreted the whole thing as cars that SS found nice to drive, or would fit her needs best. I don't think anyone can write an opinion about cars that will suit everyone.
I am not a car nut, therefore when I buy a car, I look for something that suits my needs. Those are, transporting me & my family from A to B, carrying loads of luguage on holidays. Mostly driving on German motorways. It needs to look nice (to me), and be reliable. A cat that goes from 0 to 100 in 3 secs or turns on a dime don't interest me, as I don't do that.
Therefore a Jeep & a Lamborghini don't fit my needs. But to some they are the best & most perfect cars in the world.

nope its the euro arm of Vauxhall - both units built in Europe - holden built in Aussie. but they are sister company's and share build specs etc.

As said, Vauxhall is English, Opel is German.

I have done a bit of product photography, but won't say I'm an expert.
I don't have a permanent light tent, but have built a temporary one on a few occasions. I also designed a large scale light tent for a company to take web product shots which they built and use.
Try making the box deeper, then you can move the side lights forward or back to adjust the amount of light getting to the front of it.
The large box I built was 1 m wide and 2 m long ( 1m x 1m would have been enough).
It has a glass table and ripstop nylon roof & sides. It uses 3 lights. One below the table for true shadow free photos, and 2 side lights which are placed relatively high so they cover the roof & sides.
Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the setup.

Tony, these were shot in a cardboard box, with tracing paper defusers, and single 550ex as the light source:

The last one is Ducans 20D, with Petes lens, taken with the A80 triggering the 550ex with an optical slave, so there is a small amount of front fill from the A80 flash.

I'm sure with a full set of studio lights you can do a lot better :)

So long and thanks for all the flash

Where did you get the tracing paper, Just a paper Plus place?
Wonder if there is a way my 580ex can trigger my studio lights.
I just tryed a light in front, kind of gets in the way of shooting.

Oh well something to do on winter nights

So glass table was the "floor" light underneth. I can build that. May need to look at how I would hold the studio light though. May need to make a holder.
