The road that goes off to the right from the church... used to have 4 Army houses on it. They were used as holiday accommodation and we used to get a week there in winter every year. Further around was a bit of lake that used to freeze solid and we used to skate on it. I am the proud owner of the Peleng 8mm Fisheye lens

The building that's going on round Tekapo is amazing. I have a wider angle and the other side of the main road is all half finished houses. It amazes me that you get a picturesque place and then its spoilt by every man and his dog building houses. They have to be bigger than the neighbour and closer to the lake/water/whatever. Queenstown is one place, Wanaka is following, Hawea isn't too far behind and it won't be too long before Te Anau and Manapouri are simply hotel/camp sites.

In Pokhara in Nepal they have a law that all houses must be two storeys or less and no larger than 'x', so everyone has a view of the Anapurnas. Why can't they do that here. Maybe the $ talks to loud. Anyway </rant again> lol - I am talking of a time when there wasn't a big canal connecting the lakes, when the lake was lower - and the walk up Mt John was a lovely autumn/winter stroll. My older brother found a light meter in that church entrance once. We handed it in to the 'local' cop and, about 6 months later, we got it back. It hadn't been claimed. CliveyBoy wrote in post #3375120 Heh! What a surprise! I had to baby-sit Barry when I worked at Reeds - Good Keen Man, and Hang on a Minute Mate had been published, and an advance on a third title hadn't produced a MS, so we set up a space, and I had to ensure he stayed put for a period each day. The not so long ago I met Robyn, who lived with Barry for some time, and caught up with more of Barry's movements. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting. mum and i went to the south island several times and stayed with barry and robyn at moke creek (location of first photo and this one below) robyn became his second-to-last wife following the times we stayed with them (us in a tent, them in barry's model-a ford truck). mum knew him for years before that and up until he died but we didnt see him often in later years - untilhis last wife came along,he used to have this habit of "shooting through" on his families, a hangover from his own horrific upbringing. ::John:: wrote in post #3375139 I worked with a chap called John Irons many years ago - claimed to be Robyns brother. john irons most certainly isn't robyn's brother, he was having you on! he is MY MOTHER'S BROTHER!! my uncle john! see second photo, left to right: nanna, john, me, mum
