here's one for the IT folks: I have a friend that has a laptop that has died (motherboard gone west) and wants me to build them a desktop system. Typical use would be word processing, internet stuff, and their son does a bit of games (nothing too serious)
The laptop had a COA for XP so hoping just to transfer the license.

Budget is $1000 and would like as a minimum:
19" LCD monitor
250Gb HDD
1Gb RAM
DVD writer
Minitower sized case
CPU - no exact requirements, just best value really.

has anyone got any serious reccomendations? this should be a do-able project right?

$1000 could be pushing it a bit especially with a 19" LCD, but I haven't really looked into it lately, so you never know. I think you will find that OEM XP licences are tied to the hardware these days, so if you want to be completely above board there, you will have to by a new XP licence:cry: but I won't tell if you don't:rolleyes:

transferring the coa - is not allowed - its OEM software you will upset Mr Gates.

yes its do able project.

I guess I have to save up a little more to get the 24-105 but it was amazing how much sharper it was over the 24-70 2.8 sigma

Mmm, I had a quick play with Warren's 24-105 before he left.
V nice lens!
It'd be a nice one to have, but I need to focus on saving for one for range now. I have all the other stuff

Auckland Camera (external link) would be my first port of call, every time. Their selection is rapidly growing.

Have to agree with iK. When pricing my camera no retail store had them in stock in NZ. ACC said they would beat/better any price and offered a camera to use while waiting for stock to arrive. No other store came close. However, I ended up buying from P+V in ChCh.
