We had a whole house flooded due to dodgy early 80's plumbing, polybute pipe burst in the ceiling when everyone was out, I came home to 2 inches on water through the house, a collapsed ceiling in two rooms and a very scared very wet cat.

Some of my observations whilst driving around your fair city... (Auckland that is)

1. You must learn to pronounce the city name. It is "Ork - Lund ", not "JAFATOWN."

2. Forget the traffic rules you learned elsewhere. Auckland has its own
version of traffic rules... Hold on and pray. There is no such thing as
a dangerous high speed chase in Auckland. We all drive like that.

3. All directions start with, "Go down the motorway"

4. The morning rush hour is from 6:00AM to 10:00AM. The evening rush
hour is from 3:00PM to 7:00PM. Friday's rush hour starts Thursday morning.

5. If you actually stop at an orange light, you will be rear-ended,
abused and possibly shot. When you are the first one off the starting
Line, count to five when the light turns green before going, to avoid
getting into any cross-traffic's way.

6.. K' Road can ONLY be pronounced by a native Ork-Lunder.

7. Construction on motorways & other main streets in peak traffic is a
way of life and a permanent form of entertainment.

8. If someone actually has their turn signal on, it is probably a
factory defect.

9. All old ladies with coloured hair in a crappy car have total right-of-way.

10. The minimum acceptable speed on Motorway is 120 kph. Anything less
is considered downright dangerous.

11. Never stare at the driver of the car with the bumper sticker that
says, "Keep honking, I'm reloading." In fact, don't honk at anyone.

12. If you are in the fast lane, and only going 100 km in a 100 km
zone, people are not waving when they go by.

13. The Auckland Harbour Bridge road is our daily version of Speedway.
There are plans to rename it Western Springs Waikaraka Park Bridge.

14. When in doubt, remember that all unmarked exits lead to Auckland city

15. You don't have to wait for an exit to get off a motorway, just
follow the ruts in the grass to the frontage road like everyone else.
This is how Auckland residents notify Transit NZ & Govt Departments
where exits should have been built.

16. Some people have a bumper sticker *Horn Broken, Watch For Finger*
You must get as close to possible as the car in front of you, or you may
not see the finger in time.

You know, if I cared about Auckland bashing, I'd be offended by that post Chris - except for the fact that it's all true.

Well, maybe all of it except for the K' Road bit. Hehe.

Cliff
P.S. Point 3 is absolutely true.

you forgot the additional:
Flashing a 580ex twice at an overtaking vehicle will usually result in it slowing down considerably. [theory tested and proven correct by the university of Bennett school of disturbed individuals] :D

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Motorists ARE THE LAW!!!

So who here, would, hypothetically want to do a social one night in late November, so this lanky English dude can meet some of you? We're planning two nights in Aukland en route to Wellington. No fixed dates yet but late November.

Cool. Just say when.

 And coming from me... some idiotic Asians who have no friggin idea of how to drive... or keep up with the speed limits! I was tailing someone going 30 in a 60 zone!

The other day on Te Irirangi someone sped onto the lane coming from the Gull(?) service station... ended slamming on my brakes... when I caught up to him he shrugged his shoulders and gave me the "solly no speaky Engrish..." what a feckwit!

I get really pissed off at these types because they make me look bad too when I drive so sane it isn't funny!:o:evil:

Have you seen the bumper sticker - "Asian driver - Beware"

John;)

Believe... Work hard... and it will happen!

Quite apt :p
I have heard it before, it does need a lunch traffic rush to be put in there.. it starts at 10am and finishes at 3

Anyone who hasn't, I recommend reading The Way of The Jafa.

There's also another email that's been floating about for years regarding determining which are of Auckland a motorist comes from by the way they drive... I fit the Shore description well.. I should find it

In other news... got approached by another co yesterday.. 10K more than what I'm on. Similar roll.. bonuses are 40% rather than the 10% offered with who I am with..

I just hope I wow the pants off them..

Hey I like gadgets as much as the next guy, however if I brought an ipod it would be a waste of money. I got better things to spend my money on rather than stuff I don't need.

I see glenn hasn't dropped in today. I guess he isn't getting that 40D after all :)

Hmmm, anyone wanna give me an indication of what a good price is for the 40D? Want to see if I can get any of the local camera retailers to drop a bit... Assuming the 40D has made it this far out in the whop-whops...
