Didn't know the Sigma had the protruding front element

Good job I didn't get one then.
I can use my 1.4 & 2 on all my lenses.

If I hook the Kenko 1.4 onto the 70-200 f4 and then put the Tamron 2x on as well it will autofocus :D

f11 minimum though so it hunts a bit

Found some pics of the Sigma and Canon 1.4xTC's

From thos pics the sigma does not protrude any where near as much as the canon. Here is a quick snap with my Sony digicam (Man look at that CA!)

it still protrudes inside the mount of the lens and on many lenses (such as the Sigma 24-70) the rear lens element will hit the front of the TC, which you don't want to happen!

Scott, a new camera won't help your take better pictures, it'll just make you happy to have a new toy. Get the 17-55 and forget the camera upgrade for now. Unless you're doing wedding or commercial 4 is irrelevant.

But 30Ds are black, and we all know black cameras take better pictures!

Thanks Tim, that is pretty much the conclusion I have come to. I will get more out of the lens, and can upgrade the camera to a new model that offers more benifits over the 350D later.

Where are you getting the 17-55 from? Since there was no followup here I might just buy locally if I can get them to match the Auckland Camera price.

Auckland Camera most probably. Glam was only $20 cheaper, so I will stick with what I know.

Also we know that a black camera means it's more of a tool rather than a toy :) plus the silver makes it look like a point and shoot.

joking aside, it's ture what Tim said. glass is more important. that's why I still use a 10D, it still takes great pictures.

Geez, and you wound them up so much that they gave you a Canon jacket. That must have eaten into their margins big time!

Oh well, it is back to AC then.

Hi Everyone

Just spotted a poster about this photo competition on campus so thought I had better put the link up:

Think there are plenty of shots in this thread alone that could be entered (imho).

Hmmm...
Wonder what the last sentence of this means?

They run competitions, and use your shots for free. Give away say $500 worth of prizes.. ANd it's still cheaper than taking a full res image of a pro, and reusing their images.
