If they banned you, you would know about it :)

Can run an ping trace back to the POTN server?
If its a POTN problem that will let Peka know.
But, since you can get on via a proxy it does sound a like a problem at your end somewhere.

So long and thanks for all the flash

I tried pinging 216.40.233.201, and all I got was timeouts :(

I just wonder if the work IP is in a range that has been banned from POTN.

Possible, but agian unlikly.

Most forums take IP banning very seriously, because it can effect more than one member.
Its only ever done in extreme circumstances, and with the smallest range that can be narrowed down.

If you still think thats the problem then just shoot Peka or CDS, or both a PM.

For sure Moppie, but I'm struggling to work out what else it could be.

The fact that when I change my "appearance" to the site, and can suddenly get access, and the fact that I'm not having any trouble with any other site would seem to point to something at the other end, I would have thought. But then as far as IT admins go, I'm at the very low end of the scale, so any ideas you guys have is certainly appreciated!

Assuming that the balance of warranty is transferrable, and that the filter is decent then it looks like a good buy. Have a look at his feedback -- if there aren't any negatives in the last year then go for it.

I just don't like the sample pic he used:p

I have decide for the $100 I would save I would rather have the peace of mind of a new one. Then I can get an extended warranty if I want (which i probably will on this). The saving is small compared to the overall price, so unless they drop the price, I will stick with new.

I have no problem buying second hand (Both my Sigmas are second hand), but want a decent discount to offset the risk, and hassle if something goes wrong.

Indeed, $45 off is not much incentive to buy, even with a free UV filter. Re extended warranty -- do make sure to read the fine print. I've learned heaps in my new job regarding these things (we offer 3 - 5 yrs extended warranties) There are a few surprises so you are better off knowing them beforehand.

EFS 17-55 f2.8 IS.

I was tempted by a few of your bits, but I don't need them. I do "need" to replace the kit lens.

As was I, tempted but not could not justify

The 85 f/1.8 is on my list a bit too far down it at the moment, might be interested in some of the studio kit? Might be easier to sell it as a whole though.

Actually could you do a breakdown on your studio gear? That IR whizzo would be useful, as would be big lighting stand with the boom.

Yep, you hit the nail on the head! So far no joy re my IRD refund cheque. The answer I keep on getting is that they (the IRD) are still within their parameters of 8-10 weeks:evil: . . . and I thought that I would have my 70-200 in time for my son's camp next Tuesday!

Oh well, well and good that I have not put my 28-105 up for sale just yet. As Pete says, it is sharp at f/8... I just have to hope that the shooting conditions will allow that aperture the whole time without me having to increase my ISO or resort to using a tripod or monopod:)
