I just got offered a permanent IT job :) Downside is it pays half what contracting does :( I should have more interviews this week. Now I have to decide if I want the pay cut but career development prospects of permanent work, or to hold out for contracting and keep doing what i've been doing for a few years.

well that's tough. what do you enjoy doing the most. follow that to true happiness.

I like contracting, mainly because of the pay, but getting paid to learn is good too. It might be time to take the plunge to get more experience, but it'd be nice to be able to get a deposit for a house too. Thinking will be required. Yeah lucky I have no wife or kids, I have flexability :)

Orcon have sharpened their pencil, they now have a "build your own" plan, three speed grades - 256/128 - $29.95 (no tolls), Unleased/128 - $39.95 (no tolls) & Unleased/Unleased - $49.95 (no tolls) + you pick the data cap and style, 200MB Free, 1GB-$5, 5GB-$10, 15GB-$20, 30GB-$40, 100GB-$130, 200GB-$220, "Zeroshock"-$20.

Overage on the above is $10 per 5GB, "Zeroshock" is that dodgy "managed" connection where they can limit certain data types etc, same as the standard "all you can eat" Xtra product. There is a $10 discount on the base if you have your tolls through them.

I like software development, the issue is really over money - a 50% pay cut is hard to take!

I see that. I think the zeroshock is just crap. but then that's what I think of what telecom is doing. At the moment I am paying $60 per month for downloading about 25gb worth of data at 256k. hmm thinking about changing, but I still have to pay more :(

Aha!
Thats better, although very expensive.
What about just a case with the card reader in it and a battery, then I can get a drive from techpac.

There are lots of just cases on Ebay, about US$30-40. However the international shipping cost is also US$30-40.

So long and thanks for all the flash
