The Hover that was no Bov... err Bother (/I'm getting my coat :D)

Our garden is becoming more frequented by the Helophilus hovers. I really like these ones because they're big and bold and have far less shiny parts on them than other hovers .

I really like your style as well as appreciate the techy stuff like focus and light.

Agree bold flies, get a lot around my pond, sometimes they grab another in mid air....mating?

#1. Not in this case, I deliberately moved back to show a more environmental shot. Never ever ever use artificial blurring. It's tacky and highly noticeable, at least that's how I feel about it.
#2. Respectfully disagree. The lighting is fine in my opinion. Too much light is all too often a distraction.
#3 No. I see you often commenting on people having their images too central. The image has more impact with the hover slightly off centre I feel. Too much uniformity is boring. Centralising would also remove too much of the oof leaf in the background which I feel is nicely curving around the right hand side wing.
#4. It's not so much a composition, more a close up photograph of a bug in it's environment. You compose when you can, other times you shoot what you can . This one was on our ferns, the positioning was the best I could get without disturbing it.
#5. Glad we got there in the end

on #1 my eye attention get split between the insect and the top cut on the branches (because they are white), I have difficult to ignore them.

yeah, but I think #3 is the kind of shot that works very well perfectly centerer its a great picture as it is, but I feel it would be even better centered.

Difference of opinion is always a good thing. Perhaps if they were to be printed and mounted or sold, a couple of amendments could be done but all in all, I'm content.
