If I have a 5mb image in my "Photos" directory, and "copy" that photo and "paste" it into another directory, did I just increase my HD usage by 5mb - or - did I just create a shortcut back to the original photo? I just asked 2 people and got 2 different answers ...

thanks,

r

Rick

copy and paste creates a new file, thus creating a separate and distinct 5mb file.

You increased your HD usage by 5Mb - The original is still where it was and you now have a separate copy of that file in the new location.
