A week away with no camera, and it turns out there were hundreds of dragonflies where I was staying :(

Still I managed a half hour in my garden last night, and messed up a load of shots, framing, focus and timing.
Although none are great quality, they represent a half hour well spent, regardless of the results.

Lots of hovers in the garden  There are a few more on my flickr page, if you want to see more.

And I would appreciate an ID check on this- bee or hover, or bee fly?

The eyes and antennae on the last one definitely belong to something in Diptera, not a bee.

I missed focus on the eyes on the first shot, it needed to be 1/2 an eye closer, but I still liked it for other reasons. Mainly the fact that it reminded me how much fun this hobby can be:)

Thanks for the comments.

Good stuff Bas. Yeah a tiny tiny bit soft on the eye in #1 but I get that all the time and still post shots :D

I like them all, love the narcissus. You did a superb job on that one, I find them quite difficult to get in focus. Perhaps because of the longer fur/hairs on them. Yours is lovely and sharp.
