I took this picture with a Rebel XT and the kit lens, not too far from home in the interior of Alaska, at sunset (4:00 PM). The sun was perhaps 50 degrees to the right of the photo. The sky shows strange sort of blue and pink colors that are a normal occurrence in this area. The temperature was -15 degrees F.

You look like you are concentrating primarily on size (i.e. below 100kb) to upload to this site. You should drop your quality a little, or (within reason) go slightly larger than the 100kb limit by uploading the photo to your own web site and linking to it in your post.

If you are using Photoshop then heres a step by step guide for you (im using PS7)

1.Change the pic size to 800x(width only, the height will sort its self out)

2.Then File - Save for web (found under save as)

3.When the Save for web box appears with your pic.Click the small circle with the right arrow in it (thats found on the right side of the screen with a box with jped medium next to it.

4.After you click the arrow, click Optimize to file size

5.Another box will appear. Then change the Desired file size to 100 K

6.Click ok.Then click save

DONE :D

I am using Elements, but there is a similar feature (Save for web), so i am going to give it a try.

PS: It worked!

I'm glad you were able to post this larger. I looked at it when it was smaller, but couldn't see enough detail to comment. This is just lovely! The only thing I might do differently is to crop the top to just above where the pink starts so that the tree line doesn't run right though the center of the picture. But that's strictly a personal preference. It's a lovely shot as is!

You are correct, Becca. I should have cropped some of the sky. Here is another one taken the same day, but at another location. It needs work, of course (you will notice the power lines to the right, too). There is nothing special about my pictures, since I am just experimenting with the new camera, and I don't plan to buy the right lenses I need to photograph an incredible number of subjects I see all the time. I see from bears to falcons and everything in between, as well as breathtaking sceneries. The pictures I have posted are taken near my home, however.
