Buono Estente,

Another week, another request for rehearsal photos ... starting to think I could make something out of this ... anyway. Verdi's Traviata in Teatros del Canal, Madrid ...

Just popped in for a couple of hours one day last week, and unfortunately there wasn't too much going on but I'll be back on Monday for a full chorus run and the company will also know my face and my presence a bit more by then, which always helps for this kind of thing ... I did quite a few more candid shots when there was instruction or discussing going on, I really like doing these sorts of photos from rehearsals.

Musical director having a play on the piano ...

Back next week for what may be more regular rehearsal photos, we'll see what happens. In the mean time, C away ...

Nice set.

I'd crop #1 a bit (about 2mm off the left side, more from top & right)
#2: Very nice moment, maybe crop a bit top & right.
#3: nice.
#4: Nice, maybe brighten the left guys face a bit?
#5: More like a snapshot: Not too good expressions, unclear what the action is if you weren't there.
#6: I like it, but would have cropped a bit (there' a bit of arm in the left I think)
#7 & 8: Nice, but maybe a bit much headroom? I'd also brighten #8 a bit.

Thanks Rene, will try to bear the cropping and brightening in mind when working on the lot from today.

#5 was indeed essentially a snapshot as that group didn't have much to do the whole time, and when they did it was quite difficult to get any angle on, so I was just shooting to have something of them ...

They're all amazing black and white shots, but I like the third one the most. Something about it just tells a lot.

My website has my most recent work - macro photography (external link), live music photography (external link) and am working on a book focusing on Brisbane live music (external link) as my way of giving back.
I also have some photography tips (external link) for those with new cameras.

Thanks very much. Rediscovered it for an exhibition set recently and it does just seem to work for rehearsal photos, especially in that black room under those lights ...

Thanks a lot. I like that one too, he's looking around the piano to see what's going on (out of frame) so there's the intrigue of that ... I like trying to catch moments where the subject is unaware/distracted by something else as well.
