I'm a very new beginner in photography. I am a looking for a basic beginning and cheap external flash. Obviously I'm not going to get anything really good at a cheap price point, but I'm looking to get something that is a good value for the price. I also want it to be something I can learn a lot from. I have a Canon Rebel T3 and will be shooting in very party and club scenes. What can you guys recommend? Thanks.

You can visit THIS (external link) site in making informed comparisons. It hasn't been updated in a while so be aware of that.

Anyhow, I'd recommend a Yongnuo yn-468 (II) or yn-467 (II). The former has a digital screen and a few additional features. Those can all be had for around $75.00.

Good luck

Cheetah, Canon, Nissin, Yongnuo, Lumopro, Phottix, Godox/Neewer, and some others I cant remember, offer a variety of solutions that can work in thsi type of enviroment.

The questions you have to ask yourself are:

How much are you willing to spend? True, you can go the real budget way, but then again, you know the lower you go in price, the lower your options, and in some cases, the lower the ovrall quality of the flash youll get.

What features do you need in the flash? Do you need ettl, hss, 2nd cutain, or do you just need a plain manual flash? (incidentally manual tend to be the least expensive of the speedlights available).

How many shots do you anticipate you will take on a given night? If you plan to shoot with flash a lot, then you'll have to work out some things such as using a fast glass, bumping up ISO so that your flash does not work as hard, investing in a external battery pack (if the flash you are looking at supports one), or having a spare flash for the "just in case", etc..

Lastly, check these sites, as they can offer some insights to some different options:

so, what is your price range? nissin, sigma, phottix, and some other brand can be great options when the budget is limited.
