Headed out to the MN Air Expo at Flying Cloud today. This was my first attempt at shooting an airshow in manual, and it was quite the experience. Not the best light for dramatic skies (was mostly overcast), but still offered a chance to shoot some fun stuff.

Still working to get things edited, but here are a few quick first-pass edits.

Not completely sold on the conversions, but my first-pass stuff is never a final draft. The joys of shooting RAW. :D

Thanks! I actually did a lot of research with your posts about shooting in manual to feel comfortable enough actually doing it. Shame the weather didn't play along....there's always tomorrow as well. :D

as Frank said, great job on the prop blur. Overcast skies stink, but looks like you did well. Only knock is that I'd love to see some in color.

Went back out today - had much better skies.

Here's one of the P51-C Redtail. Still working out the workflow - this processing seemed to introduce some heavy noise with the sharpening.

Edit: Reprocessed with a different sharpening approach - I like this better.

You're re edit looks great. Nice color & great prop blur with a nice sky as the background. Well done.

I was out there on sunday, not the best for pictures but I was trying out a new lens and overall pleased with what I got. I like your pictures, here's a few more for airshow enthusiasts.

Other than a little cropping, straight out of the camera, no filters or sharpening and handholding a 120-400 zoom. Wish I'd been there when the P-51's were flying but wasn't to be.
Hope you enjoyed it, I sure did

Thanks for the comments all.

hcbph - Great photos. I didn't get any of the T-6 formation flying, but I did last year, so I figured I had those covered. Sunday's sky was certainly better than Saturday's, but man was it much hotter as well.

. . . the non-color captures sorta add a 'vintage' look to the photos !!

Randy, Gear - 3 in the green, and a T5i with a few lenses !
