This is probably the most photographed vantage point for shooting the Sydney Harbour.
Still, first time I tried it at dusk

Since I am wanting to develop from 'good shots' to 'wow - eminently saleable', I would like feedback - both in terms of composition and PP - no matter how minor
Thanks in advance

#1 - same view, but slightly different time and framing

I like the fact that you shot early enough to keep some tone in the sky, but the opera house is a bit too bright for me. Got PS or PSE?
Have you ever used Adjustment Layers (external link) for local changes? Note what's said in the "Advanced Tip".

It's very similar to this, except you're changing the color instead of the density: Exposure Blending in Photoshop (external link) using a Layer mask.

Only suggestion I have is watch your horizons. Some of them looks slightly tilted.
But then again it could be me. I just woke up and didn't have my coffee yet. Lol. :D

Can't see the horizon thing, Paul. But some elements are slightly over exposed. Some tuning with "highlights" and "shadows" might correct this.
When you think about "selling" please keep in mind that Sydney Council has restrictions in place for commercial shoots of their landmarks. You need a permit if you want to sell. Not sure if that goes for all vantage points but it applies to Circular Quay, Darling Harbour and some other spots.

I see a slight angle to the horizon in the first shot, the rest are close enough at least to my eye in that regard.

The opera house is a big over exposed in the second shot, but otherwise, wish I could take photos this good (and at those locations, really must make it to Sydney some time)

thanks for the feedback everyone and I have fixed the opera house exposure issue

Henk - I am aware of the 'selling issue'. The 'selling' would be for prints and or rights managed only, and it was just a turn of phrase to describe my desire to produce more 'wow' shots rather than 'good' shots.

cheers, Paul
