Just wondering, I bought a G1x to go light for a trip about 8mths ago, and have not picked up my Dslr since. Anybody else?

It won't, however, replace my DSLRs as a general thing: long lenses, macro, selective focus etc. are all better done with something other than the G1X. However, it is a great little camera for "just walking around" and I suspect I'll continue to use it for that, even after I'm reunited with my "more serious" gear. It's IQ is high enough and it's convenience factor convenient enough that I suspect I'll keep using it as my casual, take everywhere, camera. Some digital cameras, some film cameras, some lenses & other kit.

Image quality is pretty comparable except at high ISO, and I love the IS feature on the G12. However, I'll be buying a new DSLR soon to replace the 40D, at which point the G12 will probably be reserved for product photography and travel. Zenfolio

The weather decided for me, it was so hot, I couldn't bare the idea of hauling round an old 1D and lenses. There were plenty of others there though that did, but I did not envy them at all. The G1x took some lovely pics for me, and nobody really noticed me with it, such a great thing for street stuff.

Obviously the 7D is going to get a lot of shots that the G1-X will miss but purely comparing photos it's close. Justin

Of course 5D mk2 blows both of them away in that department ![]() Forgot where I read from, seem G1x has better high ISO than 7D. Yea, I have a 7d also, and I had a few kids with me at the bronz zoo ^^^^^^above, it was really nice to just have the g1x around my neck, and take great shots without the bulk, hey that's why they make tons of different stuff and everyone has a choice. I have been lugging slr, and then dslr's around on vacations, etc for 20yrs, I am tired and old and like the convenience now

I now have G1X, G15, and G12 and still have less than the price of a good L lens in all of them. Just cant decide which one I really dont want to keep yet. They all have their advantages.

I don't use DSLRs anymore but the G1X isn't the reason for that. Nic - flickr photostream
