For those of us dinosaurs who are either content with, or occasionally run, DPP.

Grab the 15 RAW files found at http://www.photographyblog.com …00d_review/sample_images/ (external link)

And batch them with DPP.
Save as Jpg, quality 10.
Try to get a CPU monitoring graph of some sort.

AMD X6 1045T mild OC:
2.962GHz with 4~6 cores loaded
3.792 GHz turbo with 1~3 cores active.
DPP 1.13.0.1

4GB, XP Sp3, all files running off a Crucial C300 SSD.

Time: 128 seconds.

As you can see, DPP doesn't do terribly well with all the cores.

What is DPP, is that like something that comes on a floppy disk or cassette tape? :P

Man, I'm too lazy to individually download 15 files. If you can provide an easy ZIP link, I'll play.

Known issue. Fix: Batch convert the files in more then one batch.

It's a rather useful / necessary program! :D

While it may not impress the Gear Dweeb crowd, it does get the job done.

Yea, that simple tweak would help a lot.

By dividing the queue into two parallel batches, I got the time down to 91 seconds.
Three groups: 80 seconds.

i was searching for DPP sucks and found this thread :D

with my recent upgrade to a 6D, and old CS4 i can't easily open raw files, so i've been using DNG or DPP. surprisingly DPP is much slower than converting.

anyway, i guess i better look this over in the morning.

cheers!

Finally got around to running this on my desktop machine:

i7-3770k, stock
Win 7 x64
16GB RAM
SSD system drive
Files on 5x1GB RAID5
DPP 3.12.52

95 seconds (1 batch)
65 seconds (8 + 7 in 2 batches)

FYI--With lens profile corrections (distortion + vignetting) enabled, LR4.4 does it in 59 seconds.
