guys, i am a newbie here, and would really like to get your advise in term of lighting for photobooth.

i am thinking of investing elinchrom light for the event photobooth. but i am a bit confused with what light i should get. and i am hoping to get some help in here.

due to the budget, i am limited myself to the elinchrom brx 500/500 set to go, which comes complete with everything. but i am afraid the light is not powerful enough.

then, there is this brx style 600/600 which give me a little extra power, but cost a lot, and i have to spend more with the light stand and soft box. but i can still pump up my investment if i have to.

my question is that will 500/500 to go set enough for the event photobooth. or wedding photobooh. or should i go with style 600/600.

also if i get either 500/500 and 600/600, can i use only 1 light and shoot it behind my slr. and keep the other light for back up. any tips and advise.

thank you

It depends on the style you are going for. I try to go as minimal as possible so I typically only have one light (sometimes two). From some of the events I've done previously it works pretty well and can cover a pretty diverse range.

you can use anything for a photobooth. I'd use a good sized shoot-thru umbrella and flat light it. Single strobe over the camera.

For photobooth, you don't need much power, since you're not competing with the sun.

That was a nice photo. Thank you for sharing. Wondering, where do you guys usually purchase the 3m backdrop from?

I am in Australia, and i couldn't find any creative and unique 3m wide backdrop (other than those plain colours)

this is not a backdrop, if that's what you were thinking.

:) it may even be a 10-m backdrop, err, wall.

on another note, i think even the smallest DLite RX can do the photobooth job.

For photobooths I use a Flashpoint 620M 300ws in a large umbrella. Less than $300 complete.

you could even use a cheap flash to do this. Could be in for $200 or so depending on your trigger/receiver of choice.

sometimes, it's not about having too little power. It's about having too much power. Those strobes are 500w/s to 600 w/s.. I'm not sure how low can the strobes go, but i'm assuming 1/16. A common problem would be having too much light even at the lowest settings.
