It is a set of five shots of a hoverfly put together. Although it is not a real representation of it's flight, I find it interesting none the less.

Not only is it interesting, but it is wonderfully captured and well presented. Great job, Bas!

Thank you Brian.

The frames were captured on the MP-E at 1:1. I didn't realise I took that many.

Works really well. I'm impressed... envious... livid!
No really, I am going to get my camera out and harpoon a Hover on a thread if I have to!

You just kept shooting while trying to follow him?

I really like the final result :)

Excellent work Bas, how you managed to maintain focus on a flying hover for 5 shots I don't know!

Thank you all, I really appreciate the kind comments.

I tend to find the subject in the viewfinder, then move until it is nearly in focus and shoot. Repeat that again and again (i.e. not using continuous shooting). Luckily there were no massively out of focus shots in the session, so they all ended up in the animation.

Thank you Dennis. I was quite pleased with it too.

I still didn't manage to get the individual bumps on the compound eyes :p

Edit: I have posted the individual shots on Flickr, for anyone interested. You can see when they are side by side that the subject is in different places in the frame. That is why I don't tend to stack much.
