I have an Android smart hone (Galaxy Note) and I use it for ebook reading, note taking and as a personal assistant.

I am looking for some good photography android apps, not to edit, take or do special effects but to help me learn photography better.

Here is what I would be interested in:

  1. Photo Journal - an app to help me record some notes about the object I am photographing
  2. Photography Techniques - apps that help me learn to take better photos
  3. Photography Exercises - Exercises to help me practice my beginner photography skills

Has anyone found any good android apps of this nature? I could buy ebooks but they aren't as easy to navigate while out as apps.

Thanks,

When it comes to techniques and exercises I rely on books for that. As far as taking notes about the image, I'm not sure what you'd want to notate that wouldn't be evident either in the picture or in the exif data? If you need to remember something but it's not in the main image just take a second image with a pullback of the scene, or a photo of the plaque, nameplate, lighting set-up, etc. . . .

Hi Scatterbrained,

Yes, for techniques, I could use books, but the benefit of having them as an app or ebook is that they are in my phone or tablet and ultra portable. I could have 100 "how-to" photography ebooks and apps on my smart phone whereas carrying even one larger book would be cumbersome.

I did fine one Android app called "PhotoCaddy" that has tips for shooting different types of pictures.

For taking notes, It isn't that I want to replicate the shooting details on a picture - the exif is fine for that. But I recently shot some classic cars and then was thinking afterwards it might have been nice to make a note of what car the picture was of because people might be interested in the subject material and may ask.

Taking notes can be especially useful if I take pictures that are more abstract - capturing a texture or flow that doesn't show what the whole object is.

I already use Evernote. I might try using it as a photo journal.

I was going to suggest Evernote but there are several journaling apps available. Just look under journals or diaries.

Just step back and take a second picture, it's a lot faster. ;)

Even a second picture won't tell me the exact year, date and model of the car I shoot. But I certainly can take a picture of a sign if there is one.
