Part of being a photographer is being a problem solver.

You might PM a member here, but the name of "tetrode". He's posted photos before of a speedlight bracket with an Elinchrom ring on the front.

I wonder if you get the same light quality using a speedlight as you would a strobe.

Highly unlikely as the former has a focussed beam contained within it's own reflector while the latter has a bare-bulb. If you want portability plus light quality, take a look at the CheetahLight CL180/360 (external link)range (there are cheaper makes and more expensive too - this is the product which is attracting all the attention world-wide at present).

SOME, but not all, of these are fairly stable. The main weakness, stability-wise, seems to be the cheap and dreadful ball head they insist on using. I have a similar bracket with just a front/back tilt and it's pretty stable.

The basic problem in concept of these items is that the upright of the bracket prevents the flash going deep enough into the throat of the add-on modifier for optimum positioning. If you look for one with a horizontal flash-unit orientation rather than vertical, you have a good deal more versatility. Something along THESE (external link) lines but not this particular one as that's for Bowens not Elinchrom. Good luck finding one!

EDIT: See also this post made in another thread concurrently with mine here.

Phil ǁ Kershaw Soho Reflex: 4¼" Ross Xpres, 6½" Aldis, Super XX/ABC Pyro in 24 DDS, HP3/Meritol Metol in RFH, Johnson 'Scales' brand flash powder. Kodak Duo Six-20/Verichrome Pan. Other odd bits over the decades, simply to get the job done - not merely to polish and brag about cos I'm too mean to buy the polish!
