Hello, my name is Kyle. I recently went on a cruise to alaska, and bought a 60D right before the trip. One day i was sitting on the balcony and managed to get this photo of a whale, but was too rushed to get the exposure right. I was hoping that somebody with Lightroom experience could help me brighten it up so it looks better, as I am going to get it printed for my mom. Thanks for any help

I'm able to click the link... but everything on the page is gray'd out and the image looks like it is as well (giving it the appearance that it's color is washed). I'm not able to save the image in any way to attempt editing.

I use manual exposure settings on the copy machine

Oops, at first I didn't see the download button but just noticed it. I've downloaded and will post an edit after my wife and I get back from shopping.

Here's a shot at it; message me your email address if you'd like me to send you a full-resolution JPEG for printing. Increasing the exposure more than a stop also increased the noise, so I got rid of some of that, added some sharpening (the focus was a little soft), fixed the white balance (I was guessing at what the water actually looked like, so tried to keep it pretty neutral), and increased the contrast. I also cropped to give a closer view and put the tail at the "rule of thirds" point in the scene. It's not a perfect image, but I think it would look OK printed. The main issue is that it's kind of subdued without a lot of contrast except for the white water around the tail. That could be emphasized by cropping even closer, but the image quality would deteriorate further doing that.

There's a little download button (I think it looks like a small down-facing arrow icon) at the top left of the linked page. You can download the .cr2 file from there. It took me a while to figure it out.

Here's an attempt using Lightroom, Dfine, and Viveza. Just guessing at the white balance.

Yeah, I saw that the first time that I viewed the page... it's grayed out along with everything else. Nothing occurs when I hover over or click the down facing arrow... it's like nothing exists on the page.

Weird. No idea... I've clicked on the link probably 10x now and everything continues to be grayed out for me. I tried both being logged into Google and being logged off. Either way, all of the options are unavailable to me.

Perhaps you need to be logged in to a Google account for it to work.
