The butterfly plant is starting to live up to it's name.

Taken with the MP-E, as I didn't seem to get any decent shots with the other rig.

Light wise, I think a bit more would be better, perhaps adding a second flash for background if its possible?

Dunno if the MP-E will be the best lens for this type of shots. Either go more mag and show us some nice detail, or go less mag (thus other lens) and show us the whole body (without cutting body parts).

Thanks all.

I had a feeling the it would be a moth! Heck it is a pretty moth, so what the hey.

Warlord, as I said in the first posts, I messed up the normal shots, and the close-ups didn't work, so these were the only shots left. If I had realised they were moth shots I probably would not have posted them.
I only have one butterfly in my collection, so I was excited that I may have a second one.

Still you live and learn, then you die and forget it all :D

Thanks again all

Nicely captured Bas, never seen a moth as colourful as that one before.

Thank you George and Andres.

In flight it is wonderful, a splash of red then black with white trails from the spots.

I must get the tamron rig ready so I know what to expect from it, in the same way I have with the MP-E rig. Hopefully then I would get some decent captures at lower mag.

I have researched and it seems to be a Scarlet Tiger Moth - Callimorpha dominula/

Thank you JD and Chris.

I am generally lucky JD. I could afford the gear (maybe if were starting now I would not be able to get what I have), the plants attract a great selection of stuff, and when I get a shot in focus there is a lot of luck involved :D
