I own a Canon 7D, i use it for my wedding shoots as a part-time job. I wanted something smaller and lighter for personal use, instead of lugging around a big heavy 7D with lenses.

I purchased the Panasonic DMC-G3 on Sunday, £300 with kit lens (14-42).
It's very nice to hold, it is light and compact and it also produces some good quality images.

But, the back of my mind keeps telling my maybe i should of just gone with the Canon EOS-M. I've seen some photos taken on it recently and was very impressed.

I think i would miss the actual grip, flip out screen and EVF of the Panasonic G3, but i will be getting the IQ and user interface i'm used to, also use my existing Canon lenses with adapter.

What do you guys think?

Well, regardless of what others think, you already made your choice. No matter which you bought, you'll always have the, "what if I had done this?" question floating around in your head. The Panasonic is an excellent camera. Enjoy it and stop worrying about the "what ifs". Tell that nagging voice in your head to sod off.

It is always better to try to keep the multiple equipment you use to one manufacturer. File types, ergos, menus, etc all will be easier to deal with than completely different manufacturer bodies and lenses, at least in my opinion. The SL1 would be a nice "compact" to the 7D, I would think. Either the EOS-M (or MII with the 70D sensor) or the SL1 will be my next small body purchase.

I have often considered the EM-5, but for the reasons I describe above, I haven't.

m4/3 gives you a much larger choice of NATIVE lenses compared to the M which keep the size and weight down. The M with an adapter and EF/EFs lenses adds size and weight.

This is what I bought to supplement my 5D2 .. mainly carry it with the 40mm STM attached.

I don't have £900 to spend on a camera without interchangeable lenses.

Anyway, over the weekend i did take back my Panasonic G3 and actually stayed with Micro 4/3's and got the Olympus E-PM2 with 14-42 kit lens and a free 17 f2.8 pancake :)

If the x100 is 900 GBP then you're doing it wrong.

The real question is x100s for paid wedding work? Seriously?

Imo sometimes it's not just about the output, you have to look the part as well.

Sure it's a nice camera and I'd love one for street photography if money is of no issue, but for pro wedding work? No!

That's fine, but OP mentions it as personal use and the x100 is perfect for that.

Totally disagree. Each manufacture excels in different areas. I got myself an X100 for my travel camera 2 years ago and if I went with your decision, I would be lugging around a rebel which is much more bulky and heavy. The X100 was the better choice.

Depends on how comfortable you are pulling out different cameras and using them with their menus, files, software, etc. :)

The EOS-M is a good option to consider, or an SL1, for example. Neither are very bulky at all.
