And people around you start directing the pictures you take. Not the situation anyone would like to find themselves in but that happens (to me) when there's a group of people getting more and more relaxed as the volume of champagne drunk increases.
So here's the situation: Bride and groom were having a picnic with bridesmaids and ushers and a couple of younger guests. I took the opportunity to get some candid shots. Soon one of the bridesmaids approached me and asked to take a picture of her which I agreed to do. Everything was taking place in a park with a lot of trees and the day was quite cloudy with occasional rain showers. So, after looking for some better natural light I told her where to stand. Soon there were more requests for posed photos (me and my friend kind of shots) which is all good. In the end we decided to do a shot of the bride with all the guys and the groom with all the girls.
I took the first shot and it ended up like this:
Then as I was waiting for the groom and the girls to get in to position one of the bridesmaids shouts "let's change the background!" and before I can stop them everybody runs away from the trees in to a field. So, forced to shoot at noon in the open I take this shot:
While the background in the first picture is a bit messy the light is much more flattering than the second one. I then asked everybody to get back under the trees but nobody was interested in that since the shot was already taken.
How do you deal with situations like these? People often say they trust you since you are the photographer and know what you're doing but then they choose to ignore what you say. Would you get more bossy to get the shot or would you rather proceed as before and just try to salvage whatever shots you can? Yes, I get paid to make the shots but I also don't want to ruin the mood while being too bossy.
Btw, the shots aren't processed yet. These are not critical and I have both of them anyway so in this case there shouldn't be a problem.
