I do a lot of dog photography and need to get out from behind the camera so I can help set up the dogs. I have wireless controller now but I have to be standing right in front of the camera (basically in the shot myself which I don't want to be).
I am wondering if anyone has experience with the LC-5 for $578. It says it has an extended range. Could I be standing pretty much anywhere and still trigger the camera to fire with this controller? I would hope so for this price. If not, I need some ideas/options. I had thought about just getting a long cord but wireless would sure be nice.

A pair of Yongnuo 602's or 603's will do what you want to do for about $30. They operate on 2.4GHz radio frequency so line of sight will not be an issue.

I have 3 sets of the 602's that I've had for serveral years now and, amazingly enough, they have never missed a beat. For $30 you really can't go wrong.

Oh, they're wireless flash triggers too, which is actually thier primary function.

Humm, I don't know if that will work since it is on the shoe (I think that is what it is called) of the flash. I have the wireless trigger for my Elinchrom studio lights and that is where it goes. It looks like the yongnuo 602 fits on top of the shoe too, so I couldn't have 2 items there. Is that correct?

Jewel,
To use a 602/603 as a flash trigger, then yes, it would go on the shoe.

However, if you just want to use it as a shutter release (it's acting as a reciever now, not a transmitter) it doesn't have to be on the shoe. You could just put some velcro on it and stick it anywhere.
