I took this Black-crowned Night Heron image without using a blind of any kind, just lying on the ground at the right spot, near this birds hunting area. This allowed me to make a nearly frame filling image at only 300mm. These birds are rather common in the USA but very rare where I live, in Belgium. I photographed this one in France, the first time I ever saw one.

This is a really fabulous capture. The stepping stones add great behavioral interest and the image quality is top notch. That you nailed this on your first and only encounter validates your photographic skills. A "true" wall hanger. Outstanding work!
