A few hours after doing the close up shots of the male darter, I was watching him when he flew up and caught a female in mid air before settling into the mating circle. A little while later they were in egg-laying formation doing a looping flight with the female touching the water at the bottom of each loop.

lovely set, haven't seen a Darter yet but normally they outnumber all the others.
