Tried to fill the frame, so right about seven feet from the front of lens. Better than the regular closest focusing distance of something like the east coast! It is hard to line up sometimes, because I usually guess just a hair too close and have to back up till I can get focus. I am usually off by just a inch or so.....

Bam! Nice capture and if that's not a macro I don't
know what is. What a great idea... using your big mah
prime as a close up/macro. Now that diversity!

You just gave all of us an excuse to go out and buy a 600mm
"But, honey, I can use it as Macro as well as a Telephoto!"
It's worth a try :)

See, because I'm new to all this, I assumed macro was only directly on top/next to the subject. I shot a few super close ups from nearly 18m away, does that still count or am I just an idiot> :D

Any very close-up shot, especially of bugs, is perfectly at home in this forum. There are also a fair number of bugs, especially the bigger ones, in the wildlife forum.

We're not purists here, when in comes to the strict definition of "macro."

Beautiful shot! :D

Man that's an awesome "tack" sharp photo..

I'm wondering,,,,,, That hole that's in the middle of the leaf and brown in color, is that hole a result of a dragonfly taking a bite? It looks like that's what it's doing in your image…

They're strictly bug-eaters. ;)
