Hi all,

Just did a deal today for a second-hand EF 24-105mm f/4 L USM lens, it's slightly faulty, apparently showing a code "err01".

So when it arrives with me tomorrow (Fri) I'm going to post it off to Canon UK for a repair etc, can't wait to attach this to my 5D Mk1 body whenever it's fixed.

Anyone know anything about this "err01" code problem...??

Thanks;
Peter - Scotland - UK

Yes, I knew the lens was faulty "to be repaired" before I bought it ok, got it for £225 (UK pounds), I rang my local Canon repair centre and they've quoted me £104 to fix & repair & post back to me.

I believe they have aperture flex cables that go bad. In the US, the repair would probably be around $200.

That is what was wrong with mine with that code. I paid about $280.00 for repairs. I had to send in mine thru an associate Canon dealer, so I'm sure they took a bit of a cut..

I have seen lots of complaints about err01 and broken flex cable. I put up a gallery of images showing my repair of my EFS 17-85mm IS USM lens with a cracked flex cable. My photos have been visited over 40,000 times. FYI have at look at http://www.pbase.com/barry_2718/efs1785mm (external link). Peter Parnel in Brisbane Qld does a flex cable repair for ~ $100. His email is in the header of the gallery at the link above.

Err 01: Lens to body communication error
The camera to lens communication is somehow being interfered with… could be a problem within the lens itself, possibly the camera body, or something as simple as a smudged fingerprint on the lens mount contacts.

Camera is giving a command and not getting an expected result. Hopefully it's just a cable. Mine was a stuck aperture.
